Multiple US locations - FedEx Ground provides
a responsible shipping solution for customers moving hazardous materials
throughout the contiguous 48 states. In an effort to enhance their
environmental health and safety program and measure the compliance
of their hub and terminal shipping centers with hazmat regulations
and standards, FedEx Ground turned to SAKO.
SAKO safety management consultants teamed with Rolf Jensen &
Associates fire protection engineers to thoroughly review existing
FedEx Ground procedures and practices regarding the temporary storage
and transportation of hazardous materials. Phase I involved a review
of applicable building codes, beginning with the International Building
Code (IBC).

Phase II measured FedEx Ground’s existing approach against
the regulations and standards of the American National Standards
Institute (ANSI), Code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR – Safe
Shipment of Hazardous Materials) and the Department of Transportation
(DOT). Phase III established specifications – physical layout
and list of equipment – for a special area within each FedEx
Ground facility to protect, separate and properly handle damaged
hazardous materials containers. |
