Laws, Codes and Statements of Conditions. There are a variety of
regulations that govern life safety in a healthcare facility. The
engineer must be aware of all state and local laws as well as building
codes as established by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
In order to maintain the facility's accreditation, it is also necessary
to prepare and use the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations (JCAHO) Statement of Conditions (SOC). The SOC includes
an evaluation of the facility with documentation of deficiencies
and development of plans for correction.
